News from Tingewick
There is not much to report this month, but that does not mean that little has been going on in the background. The church heating system has been repaired by Tom of TS Electrical, formerly of Syon Terrace, Upper Street. We can now control the fans more easily, which should result is the better heating of the church by the ancient electric storage heaters. A maintenance day has been arranged to progress the programme of essential tasks and we are grateful to have received some help from the village.
Elsie Gasson’s ashes were buried in the parish churchyard alongside Malcolm’s on Thursday, 16th. February.
The Buckingham Deanery Lent Evensongs started on Sunday 26th. February at Turweston. The Revd. Ron Bundock, Area Dean, preached. This series of Lenten services continues to 1st. April; details are set out in the centre spread.
Work continues on our programme of fund raising events. Sales of tickets for the spring Safari Supper have already exceeded last year’s number and its capacity has been increased to cope. The list of events is given below.
Forward Diary Dates Saturday March 10th.Safari supper. 6.30 pm start till late. Tickets £15 per head from Jean Bone (848523) & Claire Horsman (847962).
Sunday 18th. March -Mothering Sunday. 10.00 Breakfast followed by a short family service at 10.30.
Easter Sunday April 8th. & Monday April 9th.Sunday Service of Holy Communion at 9.30 Cream Teas & Exhibitions of Christening Robes, 150th. Anniversary of the Book of Common Prayer, Winslow Art Society & an exhibition of Flowers. 2 pm to 5 pm on both days. ‘Celebration of Baptism service at 5.00 pm.
Diamond Jubilee Celebrations Saturday June 2nd. to Monday June 4th.There will be a special service on the Sunday. The main events will take place on the Monday, with a procession to the recreation ground where the Grand Fete and Beer Festival will be held. Children’s sports, a dog show and other events are proposed. This will finish with live music until late in the evening. A number of exhibitions are being planned for the church. Saturday June 16th. Music in the Garden.Our third ‘Music in the Garden’ with the Winslow Concert Band will take place as before in the grounds of Tingewick Hall, courtesy of Brian and Marianne Speed. I hope the weather will be kind to us!
Sunday 30th. September. Village Harvest Supper.The third of the revived Village Harvest Suppers will be held in the village hall at 7.00 pm, preceded by a Harvest Festival service at Saint Mary Magdalen at 6.00 pm.
